Restorative Yoga

Penny is a specialist in the area of Restorative Yoga. She has trained with Judith Hanson Lasater extensively, and regularly assists her in the United States in training other yoga instructors the magic of Restorative Yoga. Penny is Certified in Relax and Renew Restorative Level One, and is currently writing her paper for Certification in Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga Level 2.

Restorative Yoga is a quiet practice. The postures in this primary series are all on the floor…nothing in standing. Props including bolsters, blocks, blankets and pillows are an integral part of the posture. These props hold you up, allowing your body to let go into their support. Ironically, this is the key to the release of the deep tissue…letting go.

Restorative yoga is beneficial to all people. Overworked and overstrained athletes, individuals suffering from mental strain and stress, cardiac issues, high blood pressure, chronic pain, post emotional and physical trauma, new moms, post-surgical recovery, fibromyalgia. If you feel the need to deeply rest (and who doesn’t) this class is for you.

About Penny

Wednesday Nights: April 24 - June 26

7:00pm - 8:15pm
Hatha Yoga

Penny has been teaching Hatha Yoga since 2009, and regularly attends additional yoga education both in Canada and the United States. Her 22 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room enhances her ability to support you in your practice no matter what you bring to the mat.

Hatha Yoga consists of the classic series of yoga postures, in standing, sitting, lying down, upside down and kneeling. The postures are created with the body and the breath. The journey into and out of the postures are just as much a part of the practice as the postures themselves. Off the mat, the practice of yoga helps us to reflect upon our own circumstances and stories…how do I react to stress? Am I breathing? How do I treat myself and others? How do I experience Peace? For beginners and experienced.

About Penny

Thursday Nights: April 25 - June 27

7:00pm - 8:15pm
Hatha Yoga Flow

Flow Yoga is an advanced practice. It is important that the student of this class has a reasonably sound Hatha Practice. The constant movement of the means that the basics of posture are moved through quickly, and therefore, physical awareness and safety are a priority. In the magical flow, we are able to let go of dogma, and enter the “zone” of that wonderful flowing feeling of the heart and soul of yoga.

Penny’s experience as an Operating Room nurse has enhanced her ability to visualise safety in the movement of a “quick” practice like Flow Yoga. Normal anatomical alignment and movement, and the connection to the muscles of movement are her joy. In the operating room, patients are positioned for surgery for hours at a time, and it was an integral part of her skills and knowledge to know how to position patients safely to prevent post surgical injury. Penny is excited to support you to your journey into yourself, mind and movement.
